Welcome to Day 16/78 of the Yoga Tarot Challenge! One week from Valentine’s Day and we’ve got…The Lovers.
The Lovers card in the Yoga Tarot deck represents The Tantra, depicting Shiva and Shakti entwined. I used a seated version of Garudasana (Eagle Pose) for this card and its meaning.
“…the World and what lies beyond the world are one sole reality. The same laws of the spirit rule the galaxies and the atom. Union — choice” (p. 6)
This makes me think of the concept of choosing “both/and” rather than “either/or.” We never find the answer in a choice that is either this or that; it is always in both this and that. In fact, the only real choice comes in choosing to avoid the dichotomy.
For example, we are often forced to decide whether we find life significant or insignificant, but making that choice leads only to more “significant or insignificant” questions. We must be able to embrace the idea that life is both significant and insignificant at once. When we can do that, we can better understand everyone’s varied reactions to life’s meaning.
The Lovers is a great representation of the both/and vs. either/or concept. In fact, it makes me really rethink this card…I think this has expanded my understanding of its message…!
